ALLAN BARHAM

My first real encounter with radio was in 1991, when Allan Barham from Radio Wales came to Holyhead and interviewed Brian Davies, Helen Williams, Chris Williams, and myself about Videas Films. Allan wrote a compilation of his many experiences as a BBC reporter titled My Years of fun as a BBC Radio Reporter. For whatever reason, we did not get a mention.

DAVE ANDREW

Dave Andrew (Dave O'Roarty) writes and presents various radio plays. I was pleased and surprised when he invited me to join his talented company of actors.

VOICES OF WALES

In October 2007, writers from all over Wales had been invited by the BBC to apply for a place at their series of Community Legacy Workshops which were held all over the Principality. The object was to submit scripts for a series of short features based on the theme ‘Voices of Wales’. I wrote Nurse! Nurse, and this was later adapted to be the opening scene of my full-length play "Heirs and Disgraces". I know most of the Anglesey writers and many of them read their own work and members of the Ucheldre Repertory Company performed the majority of the other characters. Our parts were duly recorded at the Ucheldre Centre by Vision Thing Communications from Llandaff. These, along with the other submissions from across Wales, were transmitted by BBC Radio Wales during 2008 at the rate of two a day. I received all of the Anglesey writer’s recordings from BBC Radio Wales on March 21st 2008. The CD, entitled BBC Community Legacy Workshops 2007-2008, contained eleven tracks and the addition of music and sound effects considerably enhanced what for us had seemed fairly flat recordings at the time. I did hear some of the recordings from other parts of Wales on the radio on the day of transmission but failed to catch any of those from Anglesey.

Here you will find all of the eleven tracks that were written by Anglesey writers. In addition to my own work Nurse! Nurse!, you will also hear me on tracks 8 and 10.

So put your feet up with a cup of tea and a biscuit or two and be transported to the minds of some of Anglesey’s most prolific writers. The eleven tracks total approximately 67 minutes although you may want to break the whole experience up into smaller sessions.
